The Hub

It should come as no surprise that the Hub is at the center of activity in OTR. This urban watering hole is a great example of what makes the oldest part of town the most vital, from bands to beers to stand-up comedy. And black and white was the perfect way to capture the mood, the light, and the energy of the night.

Good Carma in OTR.

I was honored to work with local creative luminary and entrepreneur Jeff Chambers to create new images for his Carma Bags brand. Carma Bags are made from recycled and upcycled materials salvaged from auto bone yards and turned into everything from wallets to totes. Locally created and made right here in Ohio.

A great project for a new and inspiring brand. Thanks, Jeff.

Seeing your shot.

Pool with friends is a good time no matter where you play, but I love the feeling of a real pool hall. Larry’s in Covington Kentucky has a history and authenticity that lends credibility to the game. Even when you miscue and send the two ball careening around the bumpers, you can still feel your inner Willy Mosconi.

The drinks, the lights, the friends, and the noise; are all part of the feeling.

I love these images. They capture a feeling that has to be witnessed rather than created. While they didn’t require meticulous attention to detail, staging, lighting, and planning, like a good bank shot, they just required the ability to see the shot and take it — that and Steve Jobs’ camera in my back pocket.

Saint Sterling: A local band that’s determined not to be.

I have a passion for music, and whenever I get a chance to photograph a band, I jump on it. For the past year or so, I have been photographing Saint Sterling, an up-and-coming local band with their eyes and talents, on something bigger.

The band, Sam Tabor (Drums), Marc Eddington (vocals/synth/guitar), and Robb Clark (guitar/vocals/bass), create what they call “groovy indie rock.” A little edgy, decidedly dreamy, and a bit funky, is reflected in the images we created in their rehearsal space.

The goal was to capture the band’s essence in images you can hear.
